I agree! I always bring a sarong these days, and it helps, but nothing will make those shared showers bearable! To add to your list, I also use it to carry things, especially when I have to carry my dirty clothing to a Laundromat. It also works as a picnic cloth to sit on.

Once semi dry wrap yourself in your sarong and dry yourself properly in your room – then get dressed there. I’d even prefer this in a shared backpackers room.
The sarong is good for all sorts of things (even for men):
beach cloth
shade you arms on public transport
thin bed cover during hot nights
