Thank you Rachel for sharing this important story. Your background certainly gave you a unique perspective. It is important to visit these places in the world in hopes of better understanding. Unfortunately, things as horrific as what happened in Hiroshima can never be properly explained or understood. In the words of John Lennon, all we are saying is give peace a chance. Maybe one day.

I was not yet born when this happened but it was so close to my parents’ home in the Philippines it really unnerved them. Thanks for giving us a glimpse of the iconic dome, the eternal flame, and the mementos of the horrific event.Wish America didn’t have to do it.

I suppose it’s the same anywhere where such deeds have taken place: Nagasaki or Hiroshima, but also Auchwitz or the Killing Fields or… well, the list could go on and on…

In reply to Irene S. Levine. Thanks! I think if a person knew very little about atomic bombs, visiting Hiroshima would have even more impact. Those artifacts and all that information about the effects of nuclear weapons are pretty confrontational. In my case I knew the information already, but it would really be an eye-opener to someone who didn't know.

Many places like Hiroshima are very confronting. I remember feeling this at the Killing Fields in Cambodia
