Have tried them all while my daughter was in undergrad. We liked Pepe’s the best with Modern second, followed by Sally’s and Zenellis. All are great and we enjoyed Bar as well. You can’t go wrong with any of them, but if I ever get back to New Haven, I’m eating at Pepe’s.

Yes, it’s definitely better inside the restaurant. But if they’re all equally “old” – i.e. lukewarm, that shouldn’t skew the results, should it? What we discovered for the first time on this trip was the joy of the air fryer. We put the leftover pizza in the freezer and then use the air fryer to reheat it, and that worked perfectly! Thanks Rachel! Always love hearing about New Haven Pizza controversy … as you may remember I grew up there, and also am class of ’65. (My personal favorite right now is Modern.) Do have to say that It is preferable, by far if I may be so bold, to eat the pizza in the restaurant, and I wonder if any test outside of the restaurant can be taken 100% seriously. But no matter, your column was fun!
